“On the count of three, jump!” Xavier ordered over the roaring wind.
“What?!?” Luxor asked.
“…Two, three!” The two jumped and landed on a tree. They looked over and watched the dead body hit the ground with such force that a very large dust cloud arose. The rest was simple: they just had to climb down the tree, swinging on branches, sliding don it like a pole, and using branches as steps. When they got to the bottom, the checked to see if the kids were asleep, and sure enough, they were.
“You saved my life!” Xavier exclaimed.
“It was nothing.” Luxor tried to sound humble.
“No, really!”
“I couldn’t have done it without you.” For once the two smiled at each other.
“ Let’s do this again.”
“Anytime.”
“Even now?”
“I’ve had enough for tonight.” And with that, the two laughed as they headed off to get whatever hours of sleep was left.
